A direct, governed connection between Claude and your NetDocuments repository — so the work product attorneys actually rely on is finally in reach of the AI they're using.
NetDocuments has released an MCP server, and it's worth paying attention to. For firms that have been waiting for "real" AI — AI grounded in the firm's own work product, not a generic model improvising from training data — this is the piece that's been missing.
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the wire between an AI assistant and the systems that hold a firm's actual knowledge. With this release, Claude can reach into NetDocuments directly: find the right precedent, read the right matter file, and ground its answer in what the firm has actually done before. The documents stay where they are. Permissions, ethical walls, retention, and audit all apply as they already do.
Right now, Claude can:
More capabilities are on the way, and we expect the connector to mature quickly over the next few releases.
Every interaction runs against the user's own NetDocuments credentials. Ethical walls, matter-level restrictions, DLP, retention policies, and audit logging all apply — the AI inherits the same boundaries the user already has. Documents are read in place; nothing is copied out of the repository to make this work. Connectivity is controlled at the firm level, so IT decides when it's switched on.
The connector is in private preview for NetDocuments customers on certain plans, with availability rolling out over time. If you're uncertain about whether your plan qualifies, or how to get on the list, ask L2.
L2 helps firms accelerate through their AI transition. We work with firms large and small to identify opportunities for AI to supercharge existing workflows and then enable and train your team to get more done, compliantly. Whether you're an existing NetDocuments customer looking to get more out of your subscription, or you're just getting started and trying to design your firm to be AI-forward from day one, we're here to help.
Reach out to L2 and we'll check your NetDocuments edition, walk you through the private-preview process, and help get your firm on the list.
This page will be updated as the MCP evolves. Capabilities, supported plans, and provider compatibility are all moving quickly — check back, or get in touch and we'll flag changes as they affect your firm.
